Georgia was enjoying a peaceful afternoon at the beach with her grandkids, building sandcastles and listening to the waves crash against the shore. The sun shone brightly, and the laughter of children filled the air. It was a perfect day—until it wasn’t.
“Grandma, look!” her youngest grandson, Oliver, suddenly shouted, pointing toward a nearby café. His older sister, Lily, gasped, her face turning pale.
Georgia followed their gaze, expecting to see something amusing. Instead, her heart clenched. Seated at a small table near the café window was a couple—laughing, sipping coffee, completely unaware of the world around them. Georgia’s breath hitched. The man and woman looked exactly like her son and daughter-in-law, who had died in a tragic accident two years ago.
“No… It can’t be,” she whispered, gripping the edge of her chair.
Tears burned her eyes as her mind struggled to process what she was seeing. The resemblance was uncanny—the same warm smiles, the same way her son used to lean forward when he was deep in conversation. Even the woman’s delicate hands, wrapped around her coffee cup, mirrored her daughter-in-law’s gestures.
“Grandma, is it really them?” Lily’s voice wavered.
Georgia didn’t know how to answer. Logic told her it was impossible, yet her heart screamed otherwise.
With shaky legs, she rose from her seat, drawn toward the café like a moth to a flame. Was this a cruel trick of the mind, or was she about to uncover a truth she never imagined?
As she stepped closer, the couple turned—and Georgia’s world shattered once again.
